Slope Stabilization & Protection Works for the Yitti-Al Sifa Road Development

Strengthening Mountain Slopes for a Coastal Road Corridor

The Yitti-Al Sifa Road Development required extensive slope stabilization to secure newly cut rock faces along the upgraded coastal route. With highly variable rock conditions and long slope sections exposed to weather-driven degradation, TEICO delivered a complete system integrating rock dowels, welded mesh, and shotcrete to ensure long-term stability and safe road operation.
This work supported the construction of new internal roads within Al Sifa, providing a reliable geotechnical foundation for ongoing development in the area.

Project Overview

The project involved stabilizing multiple cut slopes along the Yitti-Al Sifa corridor, where fractured rock, weathered surfaces, and steep profiles demanded engineered consolidation. TEICO implemented a structured stabilization system combining shotcrete and rock reinforcement to improve surface integrity and protect road users.
To address these concerns, the client requested a full evaluation to determine the current stability state, identify potential failure modes, and outline a reliable, cost-effective protection strategy.

Slope Stabilization & Protection Works for the Yitti-Al Sifa Road Development

Challenges Identified

  • Highly Weathered Rock MassMultiple cut sections showed weak layers and open joints requiring deep anchoring and surface protection.
  • Steep and Irregular Slope GeometryInstalling reinforcement on varied profiles required controlled drilling and mesh placement.
  • Risk of Surface DegradationRainfall and groundwater seepage increased the potential for erosion and shallow failures.
  • Large Quantities and Long WorkfrontsOver 11,000 m² of shotcrete and extensive dowel drilling had to be delivered efficiently to align with road construction progress.

Solution Implemented:

1. Drilling & Installation of Rock Dowels
  • Executed 12,050 lin.m of 25 mm and 1,800 lin.m of 32 mm dowels to stabilize fractured and weathered rock zones.
2. Pressure Grouting of Anchors
  • Applied grouting to bond dowels to the rock mass and improve overall slope integrity.
3. Welded Mesh Installation
  • Installed welded mesh across prepared slope surfaces to provide uniform support and control shallow block detachment.
4. Shotcrete Application
  • Applied 11,600 m² of shotcrete using high-efficiency pumping equipment for consistent coverage and surface protection.
5. Final Curing & Surface Finishing
  • Performed curing works to ensure long-term durability and performance of the shotcrete layer.

Project Outcomes: Slope Stabilization & Protection Works for Yitti-Al Sifa Road Development

Improved Structural Stability Across Multiple Cut Sections

The combination of deep dowels, welded mesh, and shotcrete produced a reinforced, durable surface capable of withstanding weathering, erosion, and long-term load conditions.

Enhanced Safety for Road Users

Stabilized slopes now reduce the risk of rockfall incidents along the coastal corridor, supporting safer daily travel between Yitti and Al Sifa.

Efficient Execution Across a Challenging Workfront

Drilling, grouting, mesh installation, and shotcreting were delivered in a coordinated sequence, allowing road construction activities to progress without delay.

Durable Surface Protection for Long-Term Performance

The shotcrete layer provides lasting resistance to rainfall, runoff, and environmental exposure, guaranteeing a stable slope surface over time.

Reliable Foundation for Ongoing Coastal Development

The stabilized slopes ensure that new roads and surrounding infrastructure in Al Sifa are built on safe, consolidated ground conditions.
